SENATOR JAMES "Jim" HORTON McCRANIE: A Brief Profile

In the Beginning...

James Horton McCranie was born in August and died 73 years later in August [21 Aug 1887 - 7 Aug 1961].  His parents were Andrew Jackson McCranie and Mariah McDonald Ryals.  The sibling of James were:  Andrew Jackson, "Jack" Jr., William Harrison "Big Bill,"  John Lewis, Absalom "Abb" Johnson, Daniel G, Molly Daniel, and Georgia Idena.  We have referred to them as the "Big Eight." [Below: Molly McCranie McGlohon, "Big Bill" McCranie, brother of the Senator, Albert McGlohon, John Kingsbury McCranie, son of J. H. McCranie and Carrie Burnette].

At age 24, on Christmas Eve of 1911, he married a beautiful girl Carrie Fannie Burnette who hailed from Montgomery County [9 Oct 1893 - 25 Jan 1945].  James was born in Dodge County, Georgia and Carrie was born in Akin, South Carolina [source: Julia Bell McDonald  of Macon, Georgia to Jim F. Kimmons, September 12, 1999.  Julia's mother Minnie was Carrie's sister and Julia said both sisters were born in Akin, S.C.]. 

Both James and Carrie are buried at the Vilula Baptist Church cemetery in Dodge County, Georgia.

James and Carrie had seven children, two sons and five girls:
